SYNOPSIS:
With mingling success and humour, this well plotted thriller follows all the unexpected twists and turns that result when a seemingly mild-mannered elderly professor of philosophy is driven to murder to protect his reputation and career and then encouraged into a cover-up by his wife. How does one of his students enter the mix? And why does the Police Lieutenant not immediately recognize the situation?
ROLES:
Henry Lowenthal
He is in his late 60’s. He is a popular and respected professor of Philosophy at the Mesa Grande College in a small town somewhere in the Rockies. Approaching retirement, he expects his dream of an appointment to the Chair of the Humanities to be announced any day. This appointment will ensure his ability to teach at the college indefinitely
Polly Lowenthal
Henry’s wife. She is in her mid 60’s. A nice looking women with a manner that is both dryly humorous and warm. She appears to be an “Aunt Bea” but she can quickly and effectively take command of very delicate situations.
Edith Wilshire
Edith is in her early 40’s and coldly attractive. She is also a professor of Philosophy and chairperson of the Department. She is anxious to be rid of Henry and all his doddering old buddies. She is not the easiest person to like.
Melvin McMullen
A student at Mesa Grande. He has taken Professor Lowenthal’s Ethics course and has done badly. Given his determination not to fail his year at college, he becomes very involved in some nasty business.
Dave DeVito
A lieutenant in a small college town police force, he has an earnest manner and a hint of sensitivity. We learn that he enrolled in Professor Lowenthal’s Ethics class before joining the Police Department.
