*OPEN CALL AUDITION NOTICE – August 18, 2018*

1:00-2:30 Children’s Audition (*some children will be asked to stay to assist with adult auditions)

3:00-6:00 Adults’ Audition

(A backstage orientation and tour for those interested in working behind the scenes on this or any other 2018-19 production will be held at both 1 pm and at 3 pm.)

Wed to Sat nights – 7:30 pm curtain
Sun Matinees on December 2 and December 9 – 2:30 pm curtain (Note new time for Sunday matinee)

All actors must be available for all performances.

Open to all races and ethnicities.

Many roles will be double cast.

Parents of children cast in this production are encouraged to volunteer.

SYNOPSIS:

It’s a Wonderful Life, the beloved holiday classic is the story of George Bailey, the unsung hero of Bedford Falls. As a child, George risked his own life to save his brother from drowning. As he grew older, his countless small deeds mattered very much to the Bedford Falls townspeople. George postpones his dreams, manages the family company, and finds happiness. When he faces financial ruin he sees no way out and prepares to plunge to his death. Enter Clarence, George’s lovable, bumbling guardian angel, who has come to Bedford Falls to prove to George that his life is worth living and to earn wings for himself.


ADULT  ROLES: 

George Bailey

Male age 27-34.  A man with big dreams. He is constantly held back due to obligations to his family and his community. He is witty and loved by all.  Eventually he falls into despair and contemplates suicide after a business rival threatens all that he has built.

Henry Potter

Male stage age 55 plus. He will stop at nothing to gain control of George’s business. He is mean and manipulative.  Uses his influence for his personal gain.

Clarence

This character can be a male of ageAngel intent on earning his wings. He grants George one wish: to see what the world would be like if he had never been born.

Reineman/Gower/Charlie/Carter (off stage)            

To be played by one actor.  Male aged 35 plus

Bert/ Ed/ Welch/

To be played by one actor.  Male aged 25 plus

Uncle Billy

A male 40 plus. He is eccentric, absentminded and comical. A terrible businessman but a lovable character. Actor will be required to play other smaller roles as well.

Harry/ Peter Bailey/ Ernie Bishop/ Horace/ Tom

To be played by one actor.  Male aged 28-32.

Mary Hatch-Bailey

Female aged 27-34.  Wife of George Bailey. Mother of Peter, Tommy, Zuzu and Janie. She considered to be charismatic and attractive. Well respected by all.

Mother Bailey/Ms. Davis

To be played by one actor.  Female aged 50 plus

Violet Bick

Female age 27-40.  Will be required to play other roles. Violet is sultry and seductive.

Tilly

Female 40 plus.  She is George’s cousin.  Works as a telephone operator at the Building and Loan.

 

CHILDREN’S  ROLES: *direction team may double cast individual roles.

Young George/ Peter Bailey II

Boy aged 10-12 years old.  Will play both roles.

Young Harry

Boy aged 10-12 years old.

Tommy Bailey

Boy aged 10-12 years old.

Young Mary

Girl aged 10-12 years old.

Young Violet/ Janie

Girl aged 10-12 years old. Will play both roles.

Zuzu

Girl stage age of 6. Ideally actor should have the ability to play up to age 10-12 if required for doubling.
