For those of you who attended any of the performances of the hilarious Norm Fosters Ladies Foursome, our first play of the 2019-2020 season, you may have noticed some young entrepreneurial individuals chatting up the theatre goers. These are members of the Win-Win Homesharing team.

Have you heard of homesharing? If you haven’t met the Ottawa Little Theatre’s sustainable season sponsor, the Win-Win Homesharing team, at a recent showing then you might have some questions about the new co-living project launched in Ottawa this October.

Homesharing can be defined as a modern housing option that brings together homeowners and university students under the same roof.

In exchange for a discounted room in your home, students agree to complete chores and help around the house. From shovelling the driveway, vacuuming, taking out the trash, cleaning dishes, cooking meals, or other, students are happy to take on extra chores if it means a place they can afford to live in.

In other words: students do your chores, and you get paid to have them done for you.

Students you can trust:

If you’re renting to a stranger you met online, it can be hard to know who exactly you’ve agreed to live with. It’s why their process works– homeowners are introduced to a range of candidates our team has already interviewed and completed background checks on. They give you the power to choose a roommate that fits the criteria you set during the initial interview.

Protection for homeowner

They only suggest students to seniors they believe will have compatible personalities, interests, and schedules. That said, the contracts they provide homeowners with are tailor made for their program and give power to the homeowner to cancel within 30 days notice if the match is unsatisfactory, and immediately if students who leave tasks incomplete, breach house rules, or become harmful to the homeowner.

A “Win-Win” For Everyone

Whether it’s to give a student a home away from home, enjoy an additional monthly income, or just to have someone to water the plants while they travel, homeowners have different reasons for signing up. For some, it’s knowing there’s someone to come home to, and for others it’s simply trying something new.

By connecting mature students with senior citizens, Win-Win Homesharing reduces the cost of living for students while offering a helping hand, companionship, and a secondary income to seniors with spare rooms to rent.

Their team is committed to helping one generation maintain their independence and providing affordable housing to the next. Together, they are building a caring community.

Join them today– They are currently opening applications for senior homeowners!
