Wed to Sat nights – 7:30 pm curtain; Sun Matinees on March 2 & 9 – 2:30 pm curtain

All actors must be available for all performances

SYNOPSIS:

When Andy Dufresne is convicted of murder and sentenced to life in the notorious Shawshank prison, he must find a way to keep himself and his hope alive by using his wits and forging friendships. Based on the novella, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, the play is a story of resilience.

 

SUBJECT MATTER WARNING:

This play contains disturbing scenes of gang rape and physical abuse. The subject matter may be disturbing to volunteers. This material will be treated respectfully and sensitively during the rehearsal process; and trigger / content warnings will be given to the audience members.

 


 

ROLES: 

ANDY DUFRESNE – 30-35 a quiet, very intelligent, soft spoken, persistent

RED – 40-60 a survivor, Irish, shrewd, “the guy who could get things”

WARDEN STAMMAS – 40-60 a scammer, cruel, bully with very cold eyes

HADLEY – 40-50 head prison guard thinks he has power, not too smart

BOGS – 35-40 big hulking sister, a psychopath who sees Andy as a challenge

BROOKSIE – 65-70 a tough old con, model prisoner

ENTWISTLE – 35-40 a prison guard who follows Hadley, but he has heart

ROOSTER – 30-50 described as “trailer trash” from Alabama, loves Bogs

RICO – 35-40 a born-again Christian, bipolar, Portuguese 

TOMMY – 20-25 good looking, wants to better himself, naïve

DAWKINS – 35-40 has a short fuse, obsessed with gambling

PINKY – 20-30 minor character, any age, creed, or color

 

 

NB: Director is looking to include BIPOC, non-binary casting
