The Ottawa Little Theatre won big at this weekend’s EODL (Eastern Ontario Drama League) Festival hosted by Studio Theatre in Perth, Ontario. OLT’s entry was The Whitefish River by Ottawa playwright Jessie Bergeron, which recently won the Gladys Watt Award at the 83rd edition of the OLT’s National Playwriting Competition. The OLT frequently produces one of the winners of this competition for entry into the EODL Festival.

The Whitefish River was previewed at the OLT on October 26 before travelling to Perth as one of the nine entries performed before enthusiastic sold-out audiences on Nov 1 and 2. At the Awards Brunch on Nov. 3, The Whitefish River won:

  • Best Performance of a New Canadian Play;
  • Best Director for Joanne Farrell (the third straight EODL win for OLT in this category), and;
  • Best Actor for Shirley Manh. (The other actor in this two-hander, Pierre Tetrault, is an Equity member and thus ineligible for an award.)
  • Barry Sims was nominated for an Adjudicator’s Award for his sound and lighting design.

Congratulations to all the winners!
