EODL 1939 Regional Festival (full-length) and Dominion Drama Festival entry

"French Without Tears" was one of the ODL's entries (the other being "Pipistrelle of Aquitaine") into the Eastern Ontario Regional Drama Festival (Feb. 2-4, 1939) where it was performed in Kingston on February 4. Adjudicator George Skillen named it the best of the two full-length entries, and ultimately selected it for entry into the Dominion Drama Festival held in London, ON, April 10-15, 1939.

"French Without Tears" competed along with 13 other plays at the DDF in London where it was performed on April 15, 1939. Adjudicator Samuel R. Littlewood awarded "French Without Tears" the coveted Bessborough Trophy for Best Production, marking the first time the Ottawa Drama League had won the Festival's highest honour.
