The Workshop; EODL 1948 Regional Festival entries (one-act) and Dominion Drama Festival entry
These two one-act plays were chosen as the ODL's one-act entries into the Regional Drama Festival held in Kingston Feb 12-14. This Jan. 22 advance performance was adjudicated by Dorothy White.
"Eros at Breakfast", winner of the 1947 National Playwriting Competition, had premiered earlier in this season on Nov. 22, 1947, although as an experiement, the cast was not announced on that occasion.
On February 14, it was performed again in Kingston as one of the the ODL's one-act entries into the Eastern Ontario Regional Drama Festival. There it was awarded the Fulford Shield for Best One-Act Play.
This win led to an invitation to the Dominion Drama Festival which was hosted by the Little Theatre for the first time in eleven years. Its performance took place on May 1, 1948, after which it was awarded the Sir Barry Jackson Challenge Trophy for Best Production of a Canadian Play.
Eros was eventually chosen by the Dominion Drama Festival to represent Canada at the third edition of the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland. This performance took place in Edinburgh on Sept. 5, 1949.
