EODL Elimination Contest; EODL 1935 Regional Festival (one-act) and Dominion Drama Festival entries
This was the second of two nights of the Ottawa Drama League's elimination contest for the Eastern Ontario Regional Drama Festival.
After seeing the ODL's eight entries over two nights, the adjudicator Hector Charlesworth selected "Rizzio's Boots", "Fantastic Flight" and "Antony and Cleopatra" to move on to the Regional Festival in Kingston, Mar 14-16, 1935. He also suggested that he might include the runner-up, "The Duchess Says Her Prayers".
The latter was indeed included in the Festival's opening night performance at Queen's University in Kingston on March 14. "Antony and Cleopatra" was performed on March 15; "Rizzio's Boots" and "Fantastic Flight" were performed on March 16.
Adjudicator Malcolm Morley named "Rizzio's Boots" winner of Best Production from among the 17 entries; "Fantastic Flight" tied with another play for third place. Both received invitations to the Dominion Drama Festival hosted by the Little Theatre in April, but were shut out of the awards. (See April 22-27, 1935)
As a preview to the festival, the Brockville Theatre Guild presented "Rizzio's Boots" and "Fantastic Flight" in Brockville on April 2 along with the second place winner - "Smoke Screens" by the Cobourg Dramatic Club.
