EODL 2022 One-Act Play Festival entry (Kanata Acting Studio)
"Burn" was written by Ottawa Little Theatre actor, director and playwright John Muggleton. It was originally scheduled to open at the OLT on March 18, 2020, and had been performed once at a preview performance before the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the theatre for two years. Not all of the "Burn" Family members were able to return to their roles when the play was revived as the OLT's opening production of the post-pandemic 2022 season, but their names are included in the cast and crew lists.
"Burn" had been accepted into Scotland's famed Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2020, but that too was cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. When the Festival returned in 2022, "Burn" traveled to Edinburgh for 14 performances between Aug 5 and 20 at the “theSpaceUK” on Niddry Street, playing to over 90% houses. It won the Carol Tambor Incentive Award, and was shortlisted for the prestigious Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award.
The one-hour adaptation of "Burn" (similar to the Edinburgh version) was performed again on Nov. 5, 2022, at the EODL (Eastern Ontario Drama League) One-Act Play Festival under the auspices of the Kanata Acting Studio (the OLT entry was "Last Rites" by Guy Newsham). The Festival was held in Lindsay, ON, hosted by Creative Force Theatre on Nov. 4-6. "Burn" won awards for Best Actor, Drama (Joey Walsh) and Best Production, as well as the People's Choice Award.
