EODL 1963 Full-Length Play Festival entry

This play by Ottawa playwright George G. Blackburn, director of information in the Department of Labour in Ottawa, won an Honorable Mention in the OLT's National Playwriting Competition in 1961. Its world premiere was a professional production at the Garden Centre Theatre in Vineland ON, Sept 4-9, 1961, with Broadway star Edward Mulhare (Rex Harrison's successor in the original Broadway production of My Fair Lady) in the lead role.

On the occasion of its OLT premiere here in 1963, according to the Ottawa Citizen, it broke 50 years of box office records.

"A Button Missing" was performed again on March 24, 1963, as the OLT entry into the Eastern Ontario Regional Drama Festival (full-length) held in Brockville, March 18-23.

George G. Blackburn won the Kingston Cup for Best Original Canadian Play, and Elsa Pickthorne won Best Supporting Actress.
