Junior Theatre; EODL 1951 Regional Festival (full-length) and Dominion Drama Festival entry
This production of "Pinocchio" was adapted by Marian Taylor and performed over seven Saturdays at schools in the region.
It was performed again on March 21, 1951 as one of the ODL's entries into the Eastern Ontario Regional Drama Festival hosted in Kingston (Mar 19-21) at Convocation Hall, Queen's University, and adjudicated by Robert G. Newton.
There it was awarded the Davies Cup for Best Presentation of a Full-length Play, and the Best Actor Award (Bruce Swerdfager for his portrayal of Gepetto).
"Pinocchio" was subsequently selected from among the other regional Best Production winners to represent Eastern Ontario at the Dominion Drama Festival in London, Ontario, May 14-19. Stage Manager Bill Adkins helped build new sets to replace those battered by weeks of school tours, and it was performed one more time in Ottawa at Glebe Collegiate on May 12 before travelling to London for its DDF performance on May 16. Seventeen-year-old Richard Lamb won special plaudits for his performance as Pinocchio.
