On Saturday July 27, two hundred of his closest theatre friends and family gathered, both in person and virtually, to thank Jim Hogan for 40 years of passionate contributions to the Ottawa Little Theatre, most notably the past 19 years as stage manager extraordinaire (SM).The event, organized by Venetia Lawless and Jeanne Gauthier, provided an opportunity for some of our most storied members to regale tales of working with Jim on seemingly countless productions. Some people who couldn’t be there in person sent video greetings and written messages from abroad to share their memories and appreciation of working with Jim. Several members of the cast of the 2016-2017 production of the Three Musketeers donned their period costumes once again and remounted a poem, originally dedicated to Jim on that production’s Crew night.

An on stage fireside “Talk Back” chat took place with Jim sitting in his newly refurbished and arguably iconic SM chair. From that familiar spot, he shared wonderful memories and insights of his experiences over past productions at the OLT. The crowd – decked out in either Hawaiian shirts (a favourite of Jim’s) or the famous black Hogan’s Heroes polo shirts – were touched by all his fond memories. Jim’s Talk Back was capped off with all Hogan’s Heroes (volunteers recognized on past productions by Jim for their ongoing contribution to OLT on the technical side) in attendance invited on stage to pose for an incredible photo with Jim. The event culminated in a wonderful reception where everyone had a chance to mingle with Jim.

Fret not friends! Although retired, Jim plans to continue to volunteer with OLT for many years to come. After all, it was during his first production decades ago that he first met his life-leading-lady Nancy. The duo are integral to the OLT family. So, it’s au revoir for now and not good bye.
