Synopsis:
After leading a proper but dull life, Cecily Harrington wins a fortune and desperately yearns for adventure. Enter Bruce Lovell, a handsome and charming stranger who sweeps her off her feet. After a whirlwind romance, she recklessly abandons everything to settle in a remote country cottage – but is her newfound lover all that he seems?
Roles:
The cast consist of 4 males and 4 females.
Louise Garrard (65+): Cecily’s aunt and only relation. She is old fashioned and snobbish, nosey, and very cheap.
Cecily Harrington (28-35): The protagonist and main character of the play. She is a young woman who has recently come into a significant amount of money and desires excitement in her life. She is a complex character who experiences a range of emotions throughout the play.
Bruce Lovell (35-45): The mysterious stranger who becomes the love interest of Cecily. He is charming, enigmatic, and brings excitement into Cecily’s life. However, his true intentions and past remain a mystery. Bruce Lovell can be described as manipulative and deceitful. Bruce Lovell is portrayed as a captivating and mysterious character with a dark side.
Mavis Wilson (25-35): Cecily’s best friend and confidante. She is a practical and level-headed woman who tries to look out for Cecily’s best interests. Mavis Wilson can be characterized as a sensible and trustworthy friend, at times overprotective. Her practicality and loyalty contribute to the dynamics of the story, adding depth and balance to the narrative.
Nigel Lawrence (30-35): Cecily’s fiancé at the beginning of the play. He is a reliable and predictable individual who doesn’t excite Cecily as much as she desires. Nigel is dependable, sincere, and a steady presence in Cecily’s life.
Hodgson (65+): Cecily’s gardener. He is characterized as loyal and protective and an efficient hardworking gardener. He has spent his entire life in the area and know the locals well.
Dr. Gribble (60+): He is a practical and logical man who tries to protect Cecily from making impulsive decisions. He is the local doctor and a true crime fan.
Ethel (18-25): Ethel is housemaid, assisting Hodgson in the household tasks. This is her first job out of school and wants to impress. She is the comic relief.
