WANTED: YOUTH THEATRE WORKSHOP INSTRUCTOR
Position: Instructor, Youth Theatre Workshop
Type: Contract
Rate of Pay: $20-25/hour (dependant on experience and qualifications)
Dates of Contract: bi-weekly sessions July 4-29, 2016
Job Summary: Under the direction of the OLT Executive Director, the Youth Theatre Workshop Instructor will be responsible for providing high-quality instruction in specific theatre-craft (primarily acting) for youth aged 13-17 in themed, two-week, full-day camps culminating in a 30-40 minute performance for parents and friends on the Ottawa Little Theatre stage.
Competencies and Skills Required:
- Previous experience working with youth in an instructional setting, particularly in groups
- Knowledge and experience in theatre and drama, acquired through specialized education and/or professional work.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills including tact and diplomacy
- Creativity, imagination, energy, and patience.
- Ability to work cooperatively developing a course curriculum.
- Organizational, teamwork and leadership skills.
- First Aid certification and Technical theatre will be considered assets.
- A police records check for vulnerable sector must be completed
Responsibilities:
- Propose and follow a theme the workshop based on a specific theatrical style (i.e. musical theatre, slapstick comedy, improvisation, swashbuckling adventure, mystery, suspense, horror, etc)
- Determine curriculum to be followed and include a variety of skills and activities (i.e. improvisation, character development, voice projection, movement, costume and props selection, etc.).
- Provide full-day instruction for groups of up to 20 youth for a two-week themed camp.
- Direct the teens in a fully staged production for family and friends in which all students participate (script to be provided by Instructor or created with the teens during the two-week camp)
- Employ outstanding pedagogical techniques that engage students and encourage participation.
- Ensure OLT guidelines are followed.
- Supervise/mentor an Assistant Instructor
Work Hours: 8:45am – 4:15pm, Monday to Friday. Additional hours required on final Friday, to accommodate the final staged performance. In addition, instructors will be expected to attend one or two meetings with OLT staff to finalize course content.

Special Note: The Ottawa Little Theatre reserves the right to cancel any course/camp due to lack of registration. Instructors and Assistants will be notified by email 4 days before the session is due to begin. If a camp or course is cancelled there will be no remuneration for that session.
